According to the 1877 Atlas of the Tyaskin District, the property was owned by a Captain S.J. Regan. By the 1900 Census of Wicomico County, Samuel J. Riggin, identified as a farmer and widower, was living on the property with his son, Winfield Riggin, who worked as a grocery man, and his daughter, Mattie Riggins, who was a dressmaker.
