Friendship United Methodist Church
The Friendship United Methodist Church has its origins around 1850, established through the efforts of individuals including Leviaret Moore and his wife, along with the Levin Messick family. On July 21, 1868, Noah Moore, Marn Jones, Ephraim Stewart, Pist Episseake, and Samuel Jones, acting as trustees for the Methodist Episcopal Church in Wetipquin Neck, secured a lot of land, referenced in Wicomico County Land Records Liber TFJR No. 1 Folio 203.
In September 1876, a significant storm damaged the church when a large oak tree fell on it. This incident was reported by I. J. Cooper in the Salisbury Advertiser on September 25, 1876. Interestingly, the 1871 Atlas of the Tyaskin District does not list the church but shows a Colored School on the church property.
Wicomico County marriage records from 1873 mention that Noah F. Moore was a School Teacher in Wetipquin. Additionally, the 1880 Census of Wicomico County lists Hattlem M. Enell, a 30-year-old School Teacher from New York, living in Wetipquin as a boarder at the home of David and Samuel James Chase.
The present church building was completed in 1903, incorporating the original church structure in its central portion. Between 1946-47, the church underwent renovations, including a new addition. By 1968, a Parish Hall was added and completed. The church was officially incorporated on August 22, 1969, with the incorporation documented in Wicomico County Land Records Liber JWTS No. 698 folios 93, 94, 95, and 96.
